Can Your Baby Learn In The Womb?

A group of 16 unborn babies were taught to respond to a vibrating sensation by kicking.

With a sensor strapped to the mothers’ abdomens, investigators first exposed the babies to a loud noise to illicit a natural kicking response. Then they introduced a vibration immediately after the noise. Eventually the association between the loud noise and the vibration became automatic, and the babies continued to respond to the vibration cue by kicking even after the loud noise was eliminated.

The ability to create this conditioned response shows how capable an unborn baby is of learning.

Imagine the ways in which you can condition your baby in utero to have desired responses (ex: sleepy time vs wake time) to specific songs that can transfer to life after birth!
